That time of year again for the state fair. We decided that we would rather have to deal with far less people on a non-kid free day than to go and save a few bucks on kid days like we have in the past. Yeah, we spend more money, but its so worth it to not have a bagillion more people to fight with.
Tim was a good sport and stood in line with the kids to get their tickets for rides. (there were like 2 people in front of us)
Even though there were hardly any people in front of us, the kids were still anxious to get to the front of the line.
This year, Tim spent a few more dollars and got the kids bracelets so we didn't have to mess with tickets. This way they could ride as many rides as they wanted as many times as they wanted and were covered.
Before getting on rides, we headed over to take a look at the horses and other animals. The kids had no memory of every being that close to a horse, so they were a little hesitant, but thought it was way cool.
I embarrassed them by having them get on the fake horse and pretend to be a jockey.
Alana is WAY too tall to pass for a jockey.
After the horses we headed to the indoor area to try to cool some and still get a look at some animals.
The kids laughed and called this guy emperor Kuzko.
When we came out of the animal area we spotted Smokey the Bear. We all thought it was funny that Tim wasn't that much shorter than him. He was a good sport and let me take his picture next to him.
And of course, one of the kids too.
Only YOU can prevent forest fires.
As we were walking we found a cool little jungle-ish area where we saw beautiful exotic birds.
We went inside another building where we found a bunch of super-hero statues. The kids had fun posing with the Hulk. Alana begging for her life.

I swear it looks like he looked down more when Alana stepped in front of him.
They even had a Tardis, and since Tim loves Dr. Who, I had to get a shot with him inside.

I found Tim some deep fried watermelon
"It's different..." is all he could say after taking a bite.
The kids found a place that was handing out free pens. This was their answer to the suction cups on the bottom.

Well, since we bought the kids their wrist bands, we had to let them actually use them, right? So we headed over to the rides. On the way we ran into these funny characters.
First up was the ever popular bumper cars.
Going right for each other, no holding back.
I love Alana's tongue sticking out in this one.
Next they went on this contraption. Alana wasn't too thrilled with the idea (as you can see on her face), but she was brave and tried it anyway.
She giggled the whole time, but never let go of that center piece. (white knuckled it the whole time)
As soon as it stopped and she could get off, she ran over to me and said she would NEVER do that again.
The kids found a fun house to go into and I spotted them when they were at the very top. (this one looked like a pirate's ship)
I don't do ferris wheels, so Tim took the kids on the big wheel there. There were hardly any people in line (like the ticket line, maybe one or two people ahead of them), but they had just started the ride so the three of them had to wait for a while.
They are in the blue one all the way at the top.
Of course, because our state fair is always during the summer, it was scorching hot that day. We found a water ride and the kids ran up to ride it. Alana's scream at the tiny little slope made me laugh so hard.
This next slope/ramp was much more steep, so her response was totally acceptable here, as was Brayden's. Their faces are hilarious.
Brayden, of course wanted to go again, and Alana, of course, wanted nothing to do with it after her first ride.
So, surprisingly, Tim went on it with Brayden.
Tim let our a big, loud "WOOOAAAAAAHHHH" as they came down the steeper slope. It had me crackin' up.
Since Tim bought some tickets so he could ride the water ride with Brayden he had a few left over and went on the bumper cars with the kids.
All three of them going in for a slam!
After I did some shopping (Tim stayed back and let the kids ride more rides while I shopped and got a new flat iron and some Cutco knives) we headed over to some tables for lunch. While we ate a balloon animal artist came over and did a magic trick and made some animals for the kids.
It was a wonderful day. I hate the heat, but I love spending time with my family.
