AWANA Grand Prix

Every Friday the kids go to this group at my Uncle's Episcopal church called AWANA. The kids get to go and learn stories from the Bible and Jesus' life for a short amount of time and then they get to play games (indoor or out) and have fun! The kids love it, and the love that their leaders are two of my aunts and one of my cousins, and my Uncle is the guy in charge. So every week they get to spend time with family. Brayden even has one of my cousin's kids in his group. :)

Anyway, every year they have a pinewood derby grand prix. They sell cars that each child can buy, even the parents can buy them, and decorate. Then they have a grand prix race where they race all of the cars that were submitted and the top 3 earn trophies and they give out 2 trophies for design. Neither of my kids won trophies this year, but they had fun anyway.

I asked Tim to take this on with the kids. He helped get Brayden's car cut out and took the kids to the store to pick out their paints and decorating supplies. The day of the final car weigh in and turn in came and they hadn't done anything for decor yet, and Tim wasn't home, so I had to help the kids with it. We got them pretty much done and Tim came home and helped with finishing touches and took them to the church to turn them in. The kids were so excited!

A few days later was the grand prix! We took some friend's kids along with us and enjoyed the show.

 Neither of my children won trophies, but everyone got a ribbon for participating. Alana was pretty bummed and forced this smile for me

 Brayden's car got in first place during a couple of the races, but they took the average race time and three other kids won the trophies. Brayden holds the current track record though! He was very proud of that!

 Close up of Brayden's car. I helped with writing the number and lightning bolts, window shapes and front end art. He painted it all and I helped him with the eyes on the windshield. He was so happy with how it came out!
