MIssion de Santa Barbara Play

Since Alana is in 4th grade, everything revolves around the California missions at one point in the school year. February was that time. Each student gets assigned or gets to choose which mission they want to do their project on (depending on their teacher), they do a written report and a model if they choose to. Alana really wanted to do a model but waited until the last minute so she just did her written report.

Aside from their individual projects, her class also put on a play for the rest of the 4th grade classes (and school) on the Mission de Santa Barbara. Each student got assigned a part to play, chose what their character's names were going to be and even got to write their own script! Alana was one of the "padres".

Here she is introducing the play and asking everyone present to turn their cell phones off. :)

I kept trying to get Alana's attention for a smiling picture and Maddi even tried to get her to look at me and smile but this was all Alana gave me...little stinker.

 When the play was over, Mrs. Bernardis (Alana's teacher) went through and asked the rest of the 4th graders if they heard any clues that were said during the play.

 Mrs. Bernardis' face is funny in this one, but she asked all of the students who wrote their own lines. This is the kids raising their hands indicating that they did.

All in all the kids did great. I love that Mrs. Bernardis has the kids do this. It really gets them excited about learning about the missions and this kind of setting helps the kids learn and remember information that they might otherwise forget. LOVE THIS!
