Sometime in October, Alana showed interest in joining the Musical Theatre at school. Students grades 4-6 could audition and be a part of the production. She was ecstatic to say the least. Try outs came a few weeks into practices and Alana felt confident she would get the big part she was auditioning for: Sally Sasafrass.
Unfortunately Alana didn't get the part she was hoping for because the advisers don't usually give big parts to the fourth graders because they don't have experience and they don't know how dedicated they will be since its their first year being able to participate. So Alana got a "medium sized" part and was cast in the role of John Hancock.
The play was "Revivor Philadelphia", all about the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence and how our country came to be, but in a setting like the reality tv show "Survivor." It was really cute, and the music was perfect! What a great way for the kids to learn about our nation's start!
The company practiced for a couple of hours after school every Wednesday from October to March to be ready for their performances. They performed once for the primary grades (Kindergarten thru 2nd grade classes) and then again for the intermediate grades (3rd-6th grade classes). I made sure to attend both of those! Alana even had a fan club come to the second show!! :)

The next day, Alana had an evening performance so all of the parents and families could come and see. I made sure to drop her off on time/early enough to run over to the store and get her some flowers since she was so great!

Alana had so much fun, except for being the only person on stage wearing a full on wig (the boy that played George Washington had something on his head too, but when we looked close it really was just cotton balls strung together, Alana's was a real, HEAVY wig). Poor girl was so hot. She had on her regular undergarments, an undershirt to protect her skin from the rough shirt, a white collared shirt, and a 100% polyester suit, plus the wig and hat. She wore the most of all of the kids on stage. Poor girl, but she rocked it! She said that she thinks next year she will want to do band more than musical theatre, but I would rather her stay in piano for now and do musical theatre than throwing in new instruments at this point. She can do band in Jr. High or something... Until then, I love my little actress! Great job sweetie!
